Posture of the Month - September

Each month I select a posture, describe the pose and explain the benefits. (Previous months can be found here)

This month ...

Ustrasana - The Camel

The Camel is a valued posture as it expands the chest and frees any tension trapped in the upper back area. The whole of the front of the body is stretched whilst the back is compressed which increases the circulation of blood and oxygen to the kidneys and throughout the back. This posture is especially beneficial for people who suffer from asthma if practiced regularly. On an emotional level this posture allows us to release grief and sadness from the lungs. Alignment of the subtle body can be achieved which in turn brings balance to the chakras.

Before working on the Camel please ensure you prepare adequately with a general warm up and then specifically ... Stretch the Quadriceps and Iliopsoas muscles and do a tri-spinal release

Please Note: Care should be taken ...
